Central programming

Led by Rahul Bhat, our central programming team supports all University of Toronto students in all fields, at all levels, through its signature Learning How to Learn workshops and University Prep micro-course, as well as one-on-one appointments. A dedicated Academic Resilience team also designs and delivers cohort-based programs for undergraduate and graduate students, including perennial favourites Learning Well in First Year, Learning Well in Second Year, and Learning Well for Grads.

Under Rahul’s leadership, our emerging Generative AI & Learning Subcommittee is hard at work building resources to help students better understand how to—and not to—use generative AI to enhance their learning with multidisciplinary rigour and integrity. Team bios to come.

On-location programming

Led by Cristina Peter, our on-location service model includes nine partner communities, each of which hosts one of our learning strategists, who then focuses on offering appointments and programming to students enrolled in that community. Since 2020–21, our team has embedded a learning strategist at six of the seven undergraduate Colleges within the Faculty of Arts & Science—Innis College, New College, St. Michael’s College, Trinity College, University College, Victoria College—as well as at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Kinesiology & Physical Education. In late 2023, we recruited an additional strategist to work with undergraduate students at the Department of Computer Science.

Our embedded strategists are full, flourishing members of their host communities who develop programs and services tailored to those communities in collaboration with their Registrarial and residence colleagues. Team bios to come.

Peer programming

Led by Jonathan Vandor, our peer programming team trains and professionalizes students, at all levels of study, who offer direct support to fellow students through one-on-one Peer Mentorship sessions, live chats and facilitated workshops designed to help participants set achievable goals, practice hands-on study strategies, and tackle the most common academic challenges that students in all fields face.

Our peer programming portfolio also includes a rigorous tutor training program—the highly regarded University of Toronto Tutor Training (UT3) curriculum—to strengthen the skills and availability of academically vetted, ethically responsible tutors in the private marketplace. After certification, tutors operate independently, but are listed in a campus-wide directory of certified tutors that lets students search by course and find sound guidance.

Finally, our trademark Study Hubs help students bust procrastination while building connections and practicing techniques they’ve learned on their own or with our guidance. Team bios to come.

Graduate and professional programming

Led by Andrea Graham, our graduate and professional programs team focuses on the varied, complex and distinctive needs of learning at the postgraduate, second-entry level, including developmental needs unique to longitudinal research—from benchwork to fieldwork—and professionalization in the years far before entering the academic job market or private sector.

Programs and services tailored to research- and professional-stream graduate students include our Graduate Writing Groups, which invite registrants to commit to quiet, weekly writing sessions, Graduate Productivity Groups, which are drop-in sessions where students can build momentum on any piece of work, biannual Graduate Writing Retreats, as well as Grad Workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions delivered by seasoned coaching professionals.
